Dav Bansal, Partner, Howells
Dav is a Partner at Howells and leads the Birmingham studio, where he has overseen the design of some of the UK's most significant urban regeneration projects. His work includes Birmingham's Paradise development, the Curzon/HS2 and Martineau Galleries masterplans, together with award-winning projects including The Octagon, Port Loop, Two Chamberlain Square, One Centenary Way, One St Peter's Square and 125 Deansgate.
Passionate about creating successful towns and cities, Dav champions the delivery of healthy, connected places through thoughtful regeneration and placemaking. Alongside his project work, he is Vice-Chair of Open City, serves on a number of design review panels, and regularly contributes to industry discussions on architecture, urban design and the future of UK cities.
Stefan Rust, Associate Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
Stefan is an Associate Director at AHMM and was the Project Architect for 76 Southbank having led the project from concept to delivery. This involved navigating through challenges such as the building being listed part way through the process and dealing with the intricacies of existing structures and Heritage constraints.
Prior to 76 Southbank, Stefan was a key member of the Post Building team, a mixed-use development of the old West Central postal sorting office on New Oxford Street whilst retaining and reusing the buildings existing concrete and steel frame.
Andrew Middlebrook, Director at Heyne Tillett Steel
Andrew is a Director at Heyne Tillett Steel and was the lead structural engineer for 76 Southbank, guiding the project from concept to completion. HTS’s approach to the rejuvenation of Denys Lasdun's building was to maximise retention and minimise demolition, pushing retained elements to their full capacity, strengthening them where capacities were exceeded, and designing new elements to work with the existing structure, minimising the quantity of new material required.
Prior to 76 Southbank, Andrew led the structural transformation of the 1970s Camden Town Hall Annexe into The Standard hotel, an award-winning project that retained and radically reworked the building's existing concrete frame.
Andrea Charlson, Head of Sustainability, The Concrete Centre
Andrea is a chartered environmentalist and engineer who has been at the forefront of circularity in the built environment for 15 years. Andrea’s focus within The Concrete Centre is to support the sustainable use of concrete, enabling greater circularity and highlighting innovation. She represents the concrete sector on British Standards committees and collaborates with other groups such as the Green Construction Board Waste and Resources Group and the UKGBC Circular Economy Forum.
