Sustainability Series

The Concrete Centre is pleased to announce that the virtual Sustainability Series is back for 2021, following on from its success in 2020.

The Sustainability Series took place during the months of May & June 2021, and discussed the latest and emerging thinking on the sustainable specification, design and construction of concrete and masonry. The series included live events, guest speakers, webinars, links to the latest guidance as well as providing insights into the innovation and research that will shape the future of concrete.

For those who are new to live virtual events or the software used, please refer to the following logistical guidelines by clicking here.

Catch up on the series now via the Events hub

The on-demand webinar hub provides instant access to a wealth of information. The webinars have previously been delivered live, and viewers should note the recording date.

This is also where you can watch all the previous Sustainability Series 2021 event recordings.

Designing lower carbon concrete structures

This event recording will cover some of the ways that engineers can reduce the embodied carbon in their concrete structures, both from the specification of the concrete and from leaner, more efficient design. We will look at use of secondary cementitious materials, admixtures to reduce the water/cement ratio, specifying 56-day strengths to take advantage of lower carbon concretes and reducing the amount of concrete and other materials by efficient design.

The built-in benefits of masonry homes

This webinar shows how masonry construction can be used to deliver energy-efficient housing with low whole-life carbon emissions. Masonry homes offer essential long-term performance and adaptability, providing continual comfort in predicted warmer and wetter environmental conditions by reducing the risk of overheating, flood and storm damage.

Decarbonising UK concrete

This event recording will provide an overview of the UK Concrete and Cement Roadmap to Beyond Net Zero. It will give insights into industry activity to decarbonise concrete and cement, including fuel switching trials, new cement formulations and the enablers that will make carbon capture and storage a reality.

Whole-life carbon and buildings

This webinar shows how to reduce the CO2 footprint of concrete buildings over their whole-life cycle. Examples for saving carbon will be given for building design, in-use, long-life, re-use and at end-of-life.
