RC Spreadsheets: V4D

The popular RC Spreadsheets package version 4 was issued following the amendment to the UK National Annex to Eurocode 2 in December 2009. These Excel spreadsheets are intended as aids for design to both Eurocode 2 and BS 8110-1:1997.

The current version of RC Spreadsheets is V4D3. Version 4D3 was issued in May 2021 and provides updates to Version 4D (released in 2020) as described below.

What do RC Spreadsheets do?

For the experienced engineer, the spreadsheets allow the rapid production of clear and accurate design calculations. For post-graduates and new engineers they encourage understanding of concrete design and help the gaining of experience by studying 'what if' scenarios. The individual user is able to answer their own questions by chasing through the cells to understand the logic used.

Since their release in January 2000, the RC Spreadsheets have proved to be enormously popular. They are written for engineers by engineers. The original spreadsheets have evolved and been added to and the usefulness and robustness of the product have been enhanced by users feedback. If you have any comments please let us know.

What is included in the V4D3 update?

Since version V4D was released in 2020, there have there have been minor updates to TCC13 Punching Shear, TCC62 Retaining wall and TCC15 Cracking with axial tension and these are included in version V4D3. In TCC13, further options and commentary are provided for users when developing the punching shear reinforcement layout. In TCC62 and TCC15, minor errors have been corrected.

Also included in version V4D3 are the updates made for version V4D. These include significant developments and improvements since the release in 2018, particularly with respect to TCC13 Punching Shear, TCC15 Cracking with axial tension, and TCC53 Column Design.

The TCC13 punching shear perimeter deduction calculation, due to a hole, was revised to make it more accurate and the method to input the area of reinforcement was improved. TCC15 Cracking with axial tension was completely updated to improve its capabilities.

The fire analysis method in TCC53 Column Design has been updated to include an option to carry out checks in accordance with Annex C, in line with the revised EN1992-1-2 published in 2019. Additionally, the updates correct bugs and incorporate feedback from users. A user guide for the update is included in the ADMIN folder, available when the spreadsheets are downloaded.
