The Concrete Centre is staffed with a team of qualified professionals with backgrounds in concrete construction, engineering and architecture. This team is strongly focused on the continued development of concrete and masonry through design inspiration and construction efficiency, research strategy, education and training, new product and process innovation and the achievement of best performance of concrete in practice.

Claire Ackerman, director

Claire joined The Concrete Centre's marketing team in 2003 and became Head of Marketing in 2007 and Director in 2018.
Claire is responsible for The Concrete Centre including all aspects of marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement. With experience gained in marketing and business management in a variety of industries, Claire brings business strategy, project management and a passion for projects that inspire behavioural change, particularly in response to sustainability.
Beyond MPA and The Concrete Centre, Claire is also a member of The Concrete Society Council and the Communications and Outreach Working Group of the Global Cement and Concrete Association. 

 

Jenny Burridge, head of structural engineering

Jenny is a chartered civil and structural engineer with more than 25 years' experience in the construction industry. She has worked for ARUP and AECOM designing award-winning buildings, both in the UK and Europe. Jenny is on the Council of CONSTRUCT and a member of the working group on fire for the European Concrete Platform, as well as representing the UK at the Eurocode 2 Fire group.

Guy Thompson, director, sustainability – built environment

Guy is an architect with 40 years practical experience, including a private practice career at principal level. Guy's role at The Concrete Centre is to join up both technical and aspirational drivers with a focus on housing and sustainability in order to inspire, inform and enable designers. This involves making a bridge between industry achievement (e.g. Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Strategy) and specification drivers (e.g. Thermal mass in housing).

 

Elaine Toogood, head of architecture

Elaine is an architect with expertise in concrete and sustainability and is joint editor of Concrete Quarterly magazine. She is also Chair of RIBA SE London. Elaine provides technical advice for architects and designers regarding specification and use of concrete in construction and is holds particular expertise in visual concrete, flood resilience and sustainable design. Elaine also runs in house CPD's, workshops, and is an avid events speaker.
