The Concrete Centre and Modern Masonry exhibited at this year’s CIH's Housing Conference 2018, which took place at Manchester Central from the 26th - 28th June 2018.

Quality, Resilient and Healthy Homes
“Housing that fully addresses resilience from the outset has been identified by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) as one of the key aspects of providing a healthy home, offering the ability to adapt and respond to changing occupant requirements and future climate change” (UKGBC report – Health and Wellbeing in Homes).
The session introduced UKGBC’s most recent briefing note ‘Healthy housebuilding: Making 300,000 new homes a year better places to live’ and explored the relationship between resilient, healthy homes and construction methods and materials.

Energy Efficient Design for New-Build Housing
A recent survey of 2,000 homeowners and tenants showed that energy-efficiency is in the top five most important performance considerations. This is linked to the tangible benefit of reducing bills and creating the less measurable quality of ‘cosiness’, which was cited as the quality most desired for their home. This session showcased some of the key findings of the survey. It provided practical advice to those looking to optimise the thermal performance of new housing using masonry, resulting in energy efficient homes that meet and exceed Building Regulation requirements and are cheap to run.
Offsite Housing: The latest solutions
The use of precast or offsite manufactured concrete is well established as a construction method throughout the world and provides solutions for a great variety and complexity of layout, shapes and façade treatments.
The application of offsite concrete for single and multi-storey housing is virtually unlimited, with offsite concrete solutions ranging from building elements to whole building solutions.
