13:00 Introduction and welcome - Jenny Burridge, Director, Structural Design, The Concrete Centre
13:05 Reuse of the concrete structure at Space House – Luke Riddoch, Associate, Pell Frischmann
The energy efficient retrofit of this iconic 1960s building by Richard Seifert and Partners is set to be the first listed building in London to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and a SCORS A++ rating for embodied carbon. The project reuses the original concrete superstructure, foundations and cladding, exposing the internal structure to make use of its thermal mass. Some of the load-bearing precast concrete cladding elements were also disassembled from the structure and reused on a new section of the building. Luke will provide further details about the design and construction process.
13:25 Concrete designed for disassembly and reuse in car park construction - Russell Simmons, CEO of Ballast Nedam UK
Russell will describe the design details adopted for the use of precast concrete elements in system build car parks, designed to enable them to be disassembled and reused in the future. He will draw on experience and examples in the UK and the Netherlands
