Entries are invited for Structural Concrete 2010, a student design competition that is open to all students studying structural design as part of a UK university BEng, MEng or MSc degree course in civil or structural engineering. Organised by MPA-The Concrete Centre, the competition is designed to be incorporated into existing university curricula as an independent project, group project or as an assessment module.
The competition project brief is a rooftop swimming pool over a car park forming part of residential development. The competition has been designed to stretch the technical competence of students who, in addition, are required to demonstrate initiative, creativity and accuracy. Entrants must respond to the brief as if they are part of the consultant’s team.
A prize of £1,250 is available for the national winner with further prizes for second and third paces. In addition, there are University prizes for individual university winners and a prize for the entry that best demonstrates an understanding of, and delivers, a sustainable structural solution. The deadline for completed entry forms is Friday 28th May 2010 and Friday 25th June for the design entries. A full project brief and entry form can be downloaded from here .
