Management Team

The Concrete Centre is staffed with a team of qualified professionals with backgrounds in concrete construction, engineering and architecture. This team is strongly focused on the continued development of concrete through design inspiration and construction efficiency, research strategy, education and training, new product and process innovation and the achievement of best performance of concrete in practice.

 

Andrew Minson, executive director

Andrew is chartered both as a civil and structural engineer and joined The Concrete Centre in 2004. Having graduated and worked in Australia, Andrew came to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he completed a DPhil before joining ARUP in London. After a year of contractor experience with Taylor Woodrow he rejoined ARUP. He joined The Concrete Centre as head of structural engineering, became director, technical services in 2007. In 2009 The Concrete Centre merged with Quarry Products Association and British Cement Association to form the Mineral Products Association and Andrew became executive director, The Concrete Centre.

 

Guy Thompson, head of architecture and housing

After nearly 30 years in private practice as an architect, the last 15 of which were at principal/CEO level, Guy joined The Concrete Centre as head of architecture, housing and sustainability. His principal responsibilities have been to join up the new low carbon agenda with appropriate design solutions which maximise on the use of heavyweight materials to meet the requirements of climate adaptation, whilst utilising the long-established credentials of concrete, such as acoustic/fire separation and long life/durability. His responsibilities also include the promotion of visual concrete solutions to architects and clients; the dissemination of low carbon solutions for housing to meet the 2016 zero carbon targets, and the 2019 targets for all other building types. He is also responsible for coordinating the Concrete Industry Strategies for Sustainable Construction for 2012 and 2020.

 

Jenny Burridge, head of structural engineering

Jenny is a chartered civil and structural engineer with more than 25 years' experience in the construction industry. She has worked for ARUP and AECOM designing award winning buildings, both in the UK and mainland Europe. Prior to becoming head of structural engineering, she spent four years as a regional engineer with The Concrete Centre advising clients, engineers and architects on the most efficient and effective uses of concrete. She is also on the Council of CONSTRUCT and a member of the working group on fire for the European Concrete Platform. Key areas of development are the economic design of concrete framed buildings and the performance of concrete in fire.

 

Claire Ackerman, head of marketing and communications

Claire is responsible for all aspects of marketing and communications including brand and event management, PR and social media, publications, CRM and market research. With experience gained in product marketing and marketing management in a variety of industries, Claire brings marketing strategy, project management and a passion for communications to the organisation.
