Cafe Concrete is a new pop-up event from The Concrete Centre that will provide inspiration and information on the design and construction of visual concrete. To launch Cafe Concrete, we are celebrating with a drinks reception and lecture by Paul Monaghan titled ‘Reflections on concrete: Burntwood School and other projects’.

Concrete has featured in many of AHMM’s portfolio of projects from the elegance of the Angel Building atrium to the detailed repetition and efficiency of Dagenham Church of England School. This talk explores the evolution and influences of the practice's approach to designing in both cast in situ and precast concrete culminating in the current Stirling Prize winning Burntwood School.

As well as the lecture, the Cafe Concrete exhibition of samples and suppliers will be there and The Concrete Centre’s new online case study map will be launched. For more information on the programme for Thursday 19th May, visit

Please note that places are limited for the evening lecture on 18th May and prior registration is required.
